Cleveland police discovered a fire at a duplex early Monday on the city's east side while on patrol.
The fire located at on East 113th Street just north of Superior Avenue, appeared to start in the rear of the duplex just before 2:20 a.m. It quickly made its way throughout the two and a half story home.
The officers banged on the doors to make sure the residents were alerted to the fire. No one was home, according to Cleveland firefighters and neighbors.
Firefighters has contained the fire by 3:30 a.m., but not after the fire gutted the attic and second floor of the home.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
No injuries were reported.
