Cleveland police investigating early morning fatal shooting

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Police Department is investigating an early morning fatal shooting.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 13300 block of Benwood Avenue.

Police said they found a man with a gunshot wound to his chest.

The 25-year-old man, identified as Emeir Ragland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they learned on scene that the victim was there to celebrate his birthday.

The victim's nephew was holding a gun and reportedly shot the victim because he thought it was unloaded, according to police.

The 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene.
