Students at Cleveland Metropolitan School District made a very-long-distance phone call Tuesday morning to speak to a NASA astronaut aboard the International Space Station.

At 10:30 a.m., 35 eighth graders took part in the Earth-to-space video call with astronaut Serena Aunon-Chancellor about living and working in space.

The call was also broadcast live on NASA Television and streamed on the NASA website here.

The students are in the Cleveland district’s True2U volunteer mentoring program. The students are also designing structural trusses with straws, taking part in a career panel discussion, taking a tour of the Simulated Lunar Operations Laboratory, and experiencing space and aeronautics applications in virtual and augmented reality.
