A federal judge in Akron has sentenced the former director of two Veterans Administration medical centers in Ohio to more than 4 1/2 years in prison for taking bribes in exchange for confidential information to companies seeking work with the VA.

Attorneys for 64-year-old William Montague, of Brecksville, had sought a sentence of 51 months, citing Montague's cooperation with federal prosecutors after he pleaded guilty in 2014 to 64 counts related to bribery schemes to help contractors. He was sentenced to 57 months on Friday.

Montague served as director of a Cleveland VA medical center from 1995 until his retirement in 2010. He served as interim director of a VA medical center in Dayton for nine months in 2011.

The judge also ordered Montague to pay $390,000 in restitution.

Montague's attorneys weren't immediately available for comment.
