CLEVELAND — A Cuyahoga County grand jury has indicted a Cleveland man accused of robbing his brother at knifepoint and attempting to run over a group of people while yelling racial slurs at them, according to county prosecutor Mike O’Malley.

Rickey Adkins, 50, has been charged with various felony charges:

  • Two counts of Felonious Assault
  • One count of Aggravated Robbery
  • One count of Robbery
  • One count of Aggravated Burglary
  • One count of Burglary
  • One count of Domestic Violence
  • One count of Grand Theft
  • One count of Failure To Comply
  • One count of Ethnic Intimidation

On Jan. 7, Adkins allegedly forced his way into his 72-year-old brother’s home on Riverside Avenue in Cleveland. Adkins allegedly pushed his brother to the ground, held a knife to his throat and stole cash and car keys before fleeing the area. Shortly after, state troopers attempted to pull him over, but he refused, leading troopers on a brief pursuit that was called off because Adkins’ speed reached over 100 mph.

His other charges stem from a second incident on June 21 when he allegedly attempted to run over a group of people gathered outside for a graduation party at a home on Riverside Avenue near West 32nd Street. Adkins allegedly drove his vehicle onto the front of their lawn in an attempt to run them over while yelling racial slurs.

“These violent and overtly racist attacks will not be tolerated,” said O’Malley in a news release. “It is a miracle that no one was seriously injured by such outrageous actions.”

He was later arrested on June 22 by police. Adkins is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, July 24 at 8:30 a.m. at the Justice Center.
