Huntington Bancshares Incorporated has assumed the naming rights for the Cleveland Convention Center, following its merger with FirstMerit Corporation.

FirstMerit announced in September of last year that it would be purchasing the convention center's naming rights.

The Cuyahoga County council approved the purchase.

But Huntington agreed to buy Akron-based FirstMerit Corporation in January of this year, making the future of the convention center's name uncertain.

The company officially announced Wednesday that it would be again changing the name, this time to Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland.

According to a press release, Huntington will pay FirstMerit $500,000 for the assumption of the agreement with Cuyahoga County. Under the agreement, the company will additionallprovide more than $400,000 each year to the county for the 20-year naming rights.
