Cleveland firefighters save man trapped in car after crash on West 25th Street

One person was rescued by Cleveland firefighters after a violent crash that left a car in pieces in a west side Cleveland parking lot.

Around 3:40 a.m. Friday, the driver of an SUV exited from Route 2 eastbound towards West 25th. The driver continued down the ramp and failed to stop and crashed into a traffic light pole, tree and through a fence.

The SUV landed on its side in the parking lot of the Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works at the corner of West 25th Street and Detroit Avenue.

Cleveland firefighters worked for about 25 minutes with cutting tools to tear open the car to get to the trapped man out and on his way to MetroHealth Medical Center.

The traffic lights at the intersection of West 25th Street and the Route 2 exit ramp were out in all four directions.

The condition of the driver is unknown.
