With the global spotlight soon to be on Cleveland, ODOT crews are sprucing up local highways before the RNC.

"Our biggest role is going to be incident management,” said ODOT spokesperson Amanda McFarland.

McFarland said crews will be ready to help clear any obstructions or spills left on highways by protesters carrying out acts of civil disobedience.

"If something needs cleaned up quickly we are going to have crews stationed sporadically, ready to clean up anything that needs taken care of,” McFarland said.

ODOT crews will be staffed around the clock throughout Cleveland and Cuyahoga County.

"We are going to have crews on 12 hour shifts,” McFarland said.

Those crews will team up with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and tow truck companies to remove any abandoned cars that could be left by protesters on highways to block traffic.

"If we get that direction from the highway patrol, we will assist with things of that nature,” McFarland said.

ODOT is communicating with the City of Cleveland and the Secret Service and won't release all the details of their RNC strategy, but say they'll be ready to keep traffic moving on the highway's.

"We've been working with everybody to ensure that traffic is getting into and out of the city as smoothly as possible,” McFarland said.
