Police say a man found shot dead inside a car near a Case Western Reserve University fraternity house was not connected to the school.

In fact, authorities say the shooting happened near East 105th Street and Superior Avenue.

The man — who was later identified as 19-year-old Maurice Rembert — was shot and then later found behind the Delta Tau Delta fraternity house on Magnolia Drive.

Ward 9 council member Kevin Conwell spoke at an assault weapon ban rally earlier in the day.

At the scene of the shooting Monday afternoon, he said it's deadly shootings like this one that he believes could be prevented with stricter gun laws.

"That’s why I was at the event this morning, so we can attack these assault weapons and then eventually we move down to handguns," he said.

Police have not released any suspect information.
