Investigators Sifting For Answers in Deadly Blast

East Cleveland's Police Chief Michael Cardilli tells News 5 that a second person of interest is being interviewed by detectives in connection with a deadly house explosion Sunday.

Investigators spent Monday combing through the debris of a deadly house blast near the corner of Forest Grove and East 125th Street in East Cleveland.

One woman was killed and a man critically injured in the explosion.

The police chief says a woman has been detained and is voluntarily talking to investigators.

The second person of interest who police say may have information about the case was picked up Monday afternoon.

Neither person has been charged.

Neighbors say they recently noticed an increase in the number of people trespassing in vacant homes in the area.

Police have not said if that's what happened Sunday, but did say there were no reported gas leaks prior to the blast and the gas company didn't find any problems with any of the lines connecting the home.

"Whether you see someone creeping around in an abandoned house or somebody is in a house that's for sale or unoccupied, I would definitely say contact your local law enforcement so that we can make sure these people are authorized to be there," said Cardilli.

Meanwhile, answers can't come quickly enough for those living near the blast which damaged more than 100 homes including AJ Johnson's.

"I'm real eager to find out," said Johnson. "It might help me stop from having nightmares because I couldn't sleep last night. It's like getting closure and what have you."

The state fire marshal's office is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone with information about what happened in the case.
