Trump reps coming to Cleveland to check on RNC

Donald Trump had no sooner accepted the role of presumptive nominee after his win in Indiana last Tuesday night when his representatives were on the phone to Cleveland.

"We received a call from the Trump folks saying we'd like to come out this week as a matter of fact and visit and catch up to find out what's going on at the convention," said RNC Committee on Arrangements Chair Steve King.

The small group of three or four is reported to include Strategist Paul Manafort. They will be briefed on the extent of convention plans that have already been made.

"First of all they've got to catch up and find all the plans that we've made to date and what decisions are yet to be made and what if any role they want to play in those decisions," said King whose committee has been moving forward on convention plans in the absence of a presumptive nominee.

"Some things I guess you can say are somewhat set in stone, transportation systems are somewhat finalized, housing assignments are pretty much finalized. We do have a platform, by that I mean a physical platform a stage if you will that is pretty much in its final stages and a lot of that is dictated by the timing of the Cavs."

A run into the NBA Finals would only leave the committee with about a month to transform the arena.

"There are some things that are dictated like lighting, things like that that we can actually get into the Q before the season's over for the Cavs. So those kinds of things actually dictate what your stage looks like and how it's formed based on lighting so there are some things that are kind of beyond the point of change."

King said the opportunity for Trump to make his mark will come in the programming of the convention which aside from Monday is pretty much open.

"Monday is typically a business day where we take care of the business decisions that were made by the committees that met the week before so they'll be votes by the delegates on such things as platform and rules and credentials and other such things, that pretty much consumes your first day," he said.

"Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday though are fairly flexible and we will work with the Trump campaign obviously on programming for those three days and nights," said King.
