Fallen Conneaut soldier who died in training accident laid to rest Saturday

CONNEAUT — Friends, family and supporters gathered Saturday to say goodbye to the fallen Conneaut soldier who died last month in a training accident in Georgia.

Sgt. Thomas Cole Walker was an infantryman who had been stationed at Fort Stewart since 2016, and one of three soldiers killed last month when their armored vehicle rolled off a bridge and submerged in water during training.

He had been awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Walker was posthumously promoted from corporal to sergeant.
