13-year-old boy pistol-whipped, tied with extension cord during attempted kidnapping in Cleveland

CLEVELAND - Police say a 13-year-old boy was approached by three men, tied up and pistol-whipped during an attempted kidnapping and aggravated robbery on the city's west side on Tuesday morning.

The teen was walking from a house on West 38th Street towards Dension Avenue in the early morning hours on Tuesday when he was approached by three men who knocked him to the ground and struck him at least twice in the head with a pistol, according to Cleveland police.

The men punched the teen repeatedly as they attempted to tie him up with an extension cord. They also attempted to take his belt.

The boy was able to wrestle himself free and flee west on Dension to a nearby BP gas station.

When the boy told police he was robbed at gunpoint, he was bleeding from his head and still had the extension chord tied around his abdomen.

Police said the three suspects fled in a silver Dodge Magnum. Police had pursued the suspects before they found the 13-year-old, but the suspects abandoned the car and fled on foot.

The suspects are believed to be armed, according to police.
