The Ohio Department of Natural Resources reports that one person has died after a boat capsized on Lake Erie in Eastlake Saturday afternoon.

According to Fire Chief Ted Whittington, the Eastlake Fire Department was called to Lakeshore Boulevard near Stevens Boulevard around 1:30 p.m. after residents heard calls for help coming from the lake.

Once on scene, two firemen wearing exposure suits went into the water and rescued the two men near a capsized boat. One male had hypothermia, but was conscious at the scene. The second male was reported as in "grave condition". Both were taken to Lake Health Hospital, where one died later.

They were reportedly not wearing life jackets when the boat capsized.

The accident will be investigated by ODNR to make a final determination on the cause.

Willowick Fire, Willoughby Fire, Wickliffe Fire and Kirtland Fire assisted with the rescue.
