Lakewood firefighters battled an apartment fire on Arliss Drive that sent several residents to the hospital on Monday.
Just before 3 a.m., thick smoke was seen pouring from a ground floor apartment window of the three-story building.

Four residents self-evacuated from the third floor, including a 3-year-old and an infant. The children and one adult were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where they were treated and released. A second adult was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at MetroHealth Medical Center.
Firefighters said four other residents were rescued from the second floor with ladders. They were taken to Fairview Hospital where they were treated and released.
Rocky River, Westlake and Bay Village fire departments all sent firefighters to the scene.
The fire was contained to the first floor. Residents in five units were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
Cove Avenue was closed between Detroit Avenue and Clifton Boulevard.
