CLEVELAND — A bill aimed at protecting those who protect and serve is now headed for Ohio Governor John Kasich’s desk.

Lawmakers passed House Bill 38, also known as the Public Safety and Military Protection Act. It is designed to increase penalties when a law enforcement officer, first responder or military member is attacked. The law is aimed at protecting both current and retired law enforcement, first responder and military members.

Ohio State Representative Dave Greenspan introduced the bill. “I created this bill to protect the men and women who see us at our worst and at our greatest time of need and who serve our nation to protect our liberties and freedom,” said Greenspan.

The law applies to local, state and federal workers.
