IKEA is no longer planning on building a location in Brooklyn.
According to a spokesperson for the company, the land where they were planning on building the store was deemed 'undevelopable' due to environmental issues.
IKEA issued the following statement to newsnet5.com regarding the decision:
We recognize the customer base that exists for us in Northeast Ohio, and are disappointed that the Brooklyn site will not be develop-able for a potential Cleveland-area IKEA store.
While the most recent location we were evaluating is not advancing, we will continue to evaluate opportunities as they arise.
Though it’s the world’s largest furniture retailer, the closest location to Northeast Ohio is Pittsburgh, about 134 miles from Cleveland.
In January, IKEA announced a store will be coming to Columbus in 2017.
Columbus will be IKEA’s second store in Ohio. The first is in the Cincinnati area.
