A Brook Park man accused of dragging a police officer with his vehicle is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Thomas LaForce is charged with felony fleeing and eluding and assault on a police officer after he refused to exit his vehicle during a stop Friday, according to a Brooklyn police news release.

An officer stopped LaForce, 34, at 2:11 p.m. and immediately recognized him from an unrelated Feb. 20 theft at a Sam's Club. LaForce refused to get out of the vehicle. The officer attempted to remove LaForce from the vehicle when he drove away.

LaForce dragged the officer a short distance. He was later arrested after his vehicle flipped on its side following a short chase.

The officers were treated at a local hospital and released. They later returned to work.

LaForce is also charged with the theft.

He is scheduled to the Parma Municipal Court.
