Man accused of killing laundromat worker in Maple Heights pleads not guilty, held on $1M bond

CLEVELAND — A man accused of killing a Vietnam Veteran who was working inside a laundromat in Maple Heights, appeared in court on Thursday for his arraignment.

Carl Sanders, 31, is charged with aggravated murder and having weapons under disability.

During his video arraignment, he pleaded not guilty. The judge continued his original bond of $1 million.

Police said Sanders was attempting to assault several woman at the laundromat with a weapon. The laundromat worker, Dave Brown, intervened which led to a fight between him and Sanders. Brown was shot twice, dying at the scene, police said.

His pretrial hearing is scheduled for Jan. 2 at 9:00 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge John Sutula.

Sanders is currently being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail.
