A man turned himself into police Sunday following a hit-skip that left a man dead in Cleveland Saturday night, police said.
According to police, the 20-year-old suspect has not been charged yet, however charges are pending in connection with the incident.
Police said 60-year-old man was struck by a car and killed just before 10 p.m. Saturday, police said.
The man, identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner as Michael Groves, of Cleveland, was attempting to cross Lee Road at the intersection of Tarkington Avenue and was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop, according to police.
“He walked around the whole neighborhood, that’s all he did, mingled around, everybody in the neighborhood knew him," said John Graham, Groves' neighbor and friend.
Graham said Groves was hit by a car in front of his house four years ago. He was hospitalized for his injuries.
Police said Groves was not in a marked crosswalk when he was struck. But it did have crossing signs on both sides.
"It's a speedway, and people are constantly flying up and down this street," said Tange Douglas, a Cleveland resident who lives near the intersection.
On the opposite side of the intersection, there is another crosswalk with markings on the street but one side is missing a signal.
Councilman Terrell Pruitt, who oversees the ward where the intersection is located, could not be reached for comment Sunday night.
