EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred at a bar in East Cleveland early Monday morning.

Around 12:23 a.m., officers responded to the Positive Vibe Lounge located at 12800 block of Superior Ave. for a report of an officer-involved shooting.

During the initial investigation, detectives learned that two officers were investigating a case of possible sexual misconduct.

The officers told detectives that when they were questioning one of the men suspected to be involved in the case, he pulled out a gun and began to shoot at the officers, police said.

After the man began shooting at the officers, at least one of the two officers opened fire on the man, hitting him numerous times before he dropped his gun and fled the scene, jumping over a fence to escape, according to police.

The man collapsed in the parking lot after jumping over the fence and officers on the scene administered aid to the man until EMS responded and transported him to Univesity Hospitals where he remains in critical condition, police said.

Witnesses told detectives that the officers’ account of what had happened was accurate, according to police.

The BCI is currently investigating the shooting.

Anyone who was at the bar and has information regarding the shooting is asked to call the East Cleveland Detective Bureau at 216-681-2162.
