Authorities attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in North Olmsted that led to a pursuit and crash in Fairview Park Sunday night.

Shortly before midnight, North Olmsted police attempted to stop an SUV with no license plates in the area of Great Northern Boulevard and Lorain Road, according to Sergeant Barett of the North Olmsted Police Department.

As officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop,  the vehicle fled east on Lorain Road and entered the city of Fairview Park.

Several minutes later, the fleeing SUV hit a spike strip tire deflation device deployed by Fairview Park police in the area of West 208th Street and Lorain Road, according to Fairview Park police.

The vehicle lost control, struck a utility pole and came to a rest in a front yard in the 19700 block of Lorain Road.

A man and woman inside the vehicle tried to run away, but police were able to catch them and transport them to Fairview General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver was treated and released from the hospital. The driver is in jail awaiting charges, according to Sgt. Barett.

Police said no innocent drivers were injured. 

The accident is being investigated by the Fairview Park Police Department and the pursuit is being investigated by the North Olmsted Police Department.
