WOODMERE VILLAGE, Ohio — High winds Sunday blew a section of the roof off the Beechmont Towers apartments, sending it down four stories and onto parked cars below.

"I heard the wind and was like, 'wow, it's really windy outside," said Fabian Caraballo. "Then, out of nowhere, I just heard the roof, just foof! I can't even put the sounds effects, but I just looked outside and I heard the roof coming down."

It happened around 10:30 Sunday morning.

"I was scared at first," said Caraballo, "I thought it was about to fly and smash the windows."

It didn't, but a huge chunk of the roof damaged 15 cars parked below.

"I can't imagine to be those people," said Amanda Bateson. She returned to the apartment complex after spending the weekend at her aunt's funeral only to find her usual parking space covered with debris.

"I was literally shocked because I had no idea," said Bateson.

The building's owner says the roof came off a part of the building damaged by fire last month. He believes the fire weakened the structure allowing the roof to blow off.

Sunday night crews were already working to stabilize the damage. But some residents say it will take awhile to ease their nerves.

"I tell myself, what else can happen?" said Bateson. "Everything comes in threes. This is the second. You don't want to talk like that, but that's what's running through my head right now."

"I was shocked," said Caraballo. "I didn't think the wind could get that strong."
