CLEVELAND — There is a new push to find two people police believe killed a Cleveland Clinic worker while she was walking her dog in McGowan park one evening eight months ago.
“Somebody killed my mom, somebody shot her in the face and killed her for no reason,” Katie Wallace said as she wiped away her tears.
Police believe 58-year-old Sheila Wallace’s murder was a random act of violence. Crime Stoppers doubled the standard reward to $5,000 shortly after Wallace was killed.
Sheila Wallace was just steps from her home when she was murdered. Her black and white dog, Winston, huddled next to her.
“This should be a concern to everyone because these two individuals who were involved in this killing are still on the street and if they’re willing to pull the trigger on an innocent woman walking her dog, no telling what they would do to another human being,” said Richard McIntosh with Cuyahoga County Crime Stoppers.
Sheila Wallace was born, raised, and lived her entire life on the west side of Cleveland. She worked at the Cleveland Clinic, went to church every week and volunteered at a nursing home. Katie Wallace said her mother was funny, kind, loving and her best friend. “I feel so alone without her and it’s just not fair,” she said.
Katie Wallace is a college English professor; she and her mother were extremely close. They lived just minutes from each other, they commuted to work together, and talked constantly.
“My mother was my best friend, we were so close,” she explained.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 216-252-7463. Tips are anonymous. Not once, McIntosh said, has Crime Stoppers ever identified a tipster. The family of Sheila Wallace is begging for answers and hoping someone will come forward with information.
“Unless we get these kinds of individuals off the streets, there will remain no safe place in Cleveland,” said McIntosh.
