A man who was charged after he accidentally shot his nephew and niece was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison.

Lindsey Curry fired a gun July 4, 2015, while his 2-year-old nephew and 9-year-old niece slept on the floor, according to a Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office news release. The bullet went through the 2-year-old's abdomen, then entered the 9-year-old's shoulder and stopping after penetrating her spinal cord.

The shooting left Curry's niece paralyzed from the waist down and the bullet remains lodged in her spinal cavity. Curry's nephew made a full recovery, the release said.

Curry was found guilty of two counts of endangering children, tampering with evidence and having weapons while under a disability.

The trial lasted six days.
