LAKEWOOD, Ohio — You don’t have to know how to play guitar to take home an award at this competition, you just have to look like you do.
The US Air Guitar Championship tournament is returning to Cleveland Saturday evening.
The competition spans 16 cities across the country, crowning champions and qualifying them for the National Finals in Nashville, Tennessee in August.
Up to 20 air guitarists will take the stage at The Winchester Music Tavern in Lakewood in an attempt to win the championship title and a $300 prize.
In the US Air Guitar Championships, competitors face off in two rounds where their air guitar performances are judged on technical merit, stage presence, and ‘airness,’ which the competition describes as “ the quality of performance which transcends the imitation of a real guitar and becomes an art form all on its own.”
The US Air Guitar Championships begin at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $7 in advance and $12 at the door with show proceeds being donated to Harvest for Hunger and The Greater Food Bank.
