VERMILION, Ohio — The Vermilion Marine Patrol Unit rescued three people and a dog from a capsized boat on Lake Erie Saturday evening, according to the Vermilion Police Department.

Authorities received a report of a boat taking on water east of the Vermilion Harbor entrance around 6:10 p.m. VMPU initiated a search an rescue operation to locate the boat, police said.

After a long search, authorities discovered the boat involved was a 15-foot Reinell powerboat. Three passengers and a German shepherd were aboard the ship when it started to take on water and eventually capsized two miles east of the Vermilion Harbor entrance, according to police.

VMPU rescued the three individuals and the dog and transported them back to the police deck safely, police said.

After investigating, police learned that the boat became swamped and capsized after taking on water from the 3 to 4-foot waves present when they were out on the boat. The passengers were all thrown from the boat, according to police.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.
