Cedar Point announces changes, additions to park

Cedar Point has announced ride closings, additions and new offers coming to the park this summer -- months after unveiling new roller coaster, Valravn, in September.

A park spokesperson said due to the combination of low ridership and guests' feedback, the Shoot the Rapids water ride, as well as Skyscraper and Challenge Racing -- both located in Challenge Park -- will not reopen this summer and will be removed from the park.

However, as part of its ride changes, the park plans to debut all-new cars on the Dodgem bumper car attraction, including seating for two adults.

The park is also continuing its renovations on Top Thrill Dragster and Raptor roller coasters, including fresh paint jobs.

Among the park's new offers will be:

  • Ride Warriors Club: Guests who are part of this members-only group will receive exclusive park access and benefits, and with their membership card will have access to private ride time on some of the park's popular rides, invitation-only events, private question-and-answer sessions with park management, as well as exclusive photo and video opportunities.
  • Sunrise Thrills Tour: Guests will have the opportunity to learn more about technical operations, ride safety, start-up procedures and experience what goes into "waking up" the park's roller coasters. They will also be able to climb to the top of Valravn's 223-foot-tall hill for a view of the park.
  • Frontier Inn: New restaurant will be located in FrontierTown near the Maverick roller coaster.
  • Coca-Cola Oasis: Beverage station featuring Coca-Cola Freestyle drinks.

The changes were announced at the park's Winter Chill Out event Saturday, which included a behind-the-scenes tour for attendees. A park spokesperson said the event raised more than $40,000 for A Kid Again -- an organization that helps families of children who suffer from life-threatening illnesses.
