A driver without a valid license due to an OVI conviction crashed a Ford Fusion into the Sandusky post building of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Tuesday at around 9 p.m., according to authorities.
Just an hour before a public meeting had taken place in the conference room area of the building that was hit. But the meeting had emptied out before the crash, which damaged the room's walls and windows.
Troopers provided medical aid to Dakota Clouse, 24, who was ejected from the car during the crash and sustained serious injuries. Clouse was not wearing a safety belt, according to state troopers.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office had an outstanding felony warrant for Clouse.
When driving east on U.S. 6 at high speeds, Clouse's car went off the right side of the road, officials stated.
Clouse then overcorrected and his car ended up going off the left side of the road instead and into the lawn of the Sandusky post, authorities stated. The vehiccle continued forward until it struck a large concrete sign and crashed into the front of the patrol post, according to state troopers.
The Ford sustained disabling damage and, in addition to the harm to its building, the patrol post incurred damage to its landscaping and concrete sign, Highway Patrol stated.
Clouse was transported to Firelands Hospital.
