PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving three vehicles that occurred in Painesville Township Friday afternoon.
Around 3:45 p.m., a 2016 Jeep Compass was traveling west on U.S. Route 20 in the left lane at a high rate of speed, troopers said.
The Jeep crossed over the line and struck a 2006 Pontiac G6 and a Mazda 3 which were both traveling east on U.S. 20, according to troopers.
Troopers said the 77-year-old driver of the Pontiac, later identified as Patricia Kirk, sustained fatal injuries from the crash.
The driver of the Mazda, who is under the age of 18, was transported to TriPoint Medical Center with minor injuries, according to troopers.
The 23-year-old driver of the Jeep was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from his vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries, troopers said.
Due to the investigation of the crash, U.S. 20 was closed for about three hours, according to troopers.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation, troopers said.
