32-year-old man dies after car goes off road, hitting tree in Amherst Township

AMHERST TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 32-year-old man died when his vehicle went off the side of the road and struck a tree, according to the Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at around 3:23 a.m. Thursday on Middle Ridge Road, just west of Quarry Road in Amherst Township.

Tyler Mayo, 32, of Wakeman, was heading east on Middle Ridge Road when he drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree before flipping over.

His vehicle came to a rest on its top. Mayo was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers.

Inside the vehicle was a 30-year-old male passenger who was taken to Amherst Hospital, where he was treated for non-incapacitating injuries, according to the release.

Troopers did not release any information on what caused the crash, which remains under investigation.
