A man arrested in connection to a child porn investigation Monday was found dead in his Elyria jail cell just hours later.
The man, 47-year-old James L. Fitzpatrick, was arrested after police executed a search warrant at a home on Purdue Avenue.
Detectives allegedly found in the home several hundred videos and still images of children engaged in sexual conduct with adults.
Fitzpatrick was placed into custody for possession of the material and taken to the Elyria Police Department.
Police say he was held in a holding cell and was checked on every 30 minutes. At some point Monday, detectives checked on Fitzpatrick and he appeared to be dead.
The Lorain County Coroner's Office responded to the scene. The Lorain County Sheriff's Office will conduct an investigation into the man's death.
Police are not releasing the man's name at this time.
