The North Ridgeville School District has canceled a planned trip to Washington D.C. for middle school students this year due to safety concerns.
In a letter to parents, the North Ridgeville middle school principal said they have reached a point where they feel the safety of students may be compromised.
The letter mentioned "the loss of lives in Las Vegas, Manhattan, and Texas."
It also mentioned an incident last week in which a man was arrested near the White House after he made threats to the lives of the Capital's police force.
"Our decision to cancel has not been an easy one, and we have made it with a heavy heart," the letter read, in part. "We wish so deeply that our global climate was not one which posed such dangers to our well-being; unfortunately, our wishes are unrealized."
