LORAIN, Ohio — Republic Steel in Lorain has announced it will start production at its rolling mill later this year.
The plant was initially set to start production this past December but was delayed due to imports remaining at “historically high levels for products produced on this mill,” according to the company.
More than 60 employees have already been hired and trained. The mill has also undergone an extensive refurbishment, a company spokesperson said.
The company said it has already run production trials and is expecting orders that will enable it to start production soon.
The Lorain facility is able to produce 35,000 tons of steel per month, according to the company.
Republic Steel produces various products such as cold finished steel bars, hot rolled steel bars and leaded steel bars. The company is headquartered in Canton, Ohio.
