A Canton father and his girlfriend appeared in court Monday morning after they were both charged in the murder his 3-year-old daughter last week.
Hailey Miku was found dead inside a home, located on Dewalt Avenue in Canton, on Friday. Police said the girl suffered "severe blunt force trauma to her entire body," and that bruising and cuts found all over her body appeared to have happened over time.
Police arrested and charged the toddler's 22-year-old father, Mathew Miku, and his live-in girlfriend, 22-year-old Jessica Bender, in connection with Hailey Miku's death. They were also each charged with child endangering.
Following their Monday arraignment, Mathew Miku's bond remains at $1 million, and Bender's bond remains at $250,000.
On Sunday night, more than two dozen people gathered and lit candles to remember Hailey Miku.
The child's grandparents also set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses.
Mathew Miku and Bender are scheduled for a hearing on March 14.
