Administrators in Canal Fulton’s Northwest Local School District issued a written warning to a teacher and football coach who is accused of inappropriately touching one of his students.

Superintendent Mike Shreffler and Northwest High School Principal Eric Bornstine addressed the “Written Letter of Warning” to Mr. Vic Whiting.

The letter, obtained by newsnet5.com, warned the Northwest High School head football coach for his “actions of failure to maintain professional and appropriate teacher-student boundaries.”

Whiting, who is 60, has been accused of massaging a 15-year-old female student during a business class in April. The teen’s mother filed a report with Canal Fulton Police. Whiting has been place on paid administrative leave.

The letter continues:

Specifically, on April 26, 2016, a female student stated that you used your hand to rub her back during class. The student expressed that she was uncomfortable with and embarrassed by such behavior.

Since that time, other female students have also stated that they were uncomfortable with a touch (intrusion into their personal space and failure to maintain appropriate teacher-student boundaries) from you as well.

This type of behavior is unacceptable. You must ensure that the aforementioned behavior does not occur again and that professional and appropriate teacher-student boundaries are maintained with all students at all times. Please be advised that future concerns may result in disciplinary action, which may include a recommendation for suspension without pay or a recommendation for the termination of your employment.

A civil lawsuit alleging Whiting inappropriately touched a teenage girl at St. John’s High School near Toledo was settled in the 1990s.

Whiting has denied repeated requests for comment.
