Police arrested Sai-Vaughn Stokes, 20, who was found hiding in a chicken coop in Canton following a 90 mph car chase through neighborhoods Monday and a nearly 15-minute foot pursuit, according to the Stark County Sheriff's Office.
Officers attempted to stop Stokes for a traffic violation in the 700 block of Sherrick Road SE when Stokes took off reaching speeds through residential neighborhoods, police reported.
According to authorities, officers stopped pursuit due to safety concerns. During the chase, Stokes ran a stop sign, drove on the wrong side of the road and passed vehicles on a double yellow line, police reported.
Officers said they identified Stokes based on past experience and prior calls with him. A short time after the initial pursuit, an officer located Stoke's vehicle and tried to stop him on Trump Road near Tuscarawas Street, police said. Another high speed pursuit ensued until Stokes crashed into a street sign at 13th and Trump Road NE, police reported.
Stokes bailed out of his vehicle and led officers on a foot pursuit until he was finally apprehended hiding inside a chicken coop in the 4100 block of Georgetown Road NE on April 4. Stokes was transported to Aultman Hospital for treatment and booked, authorities reported.
Stokes was charged with two counts of failure to comply with the order of a police officer and is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
