An Akron man is facing charges for raping an 85-year-old acquaintance.
According to the Summit County Sheriff's Office, an investigation of possible abuse against the senior started in July and the woman disclosed a sexual assault in August.
She said the man forcibly raped her, causing several injuries including a broken pelvic floor and torn ligaments in her hip.
An investigation by a detective with adult protective services led to the arrest Tuesday of 65-year-old William Clark of Akron. He is charged with two counts of rape and is currently in the Summit County Jail.
"If you add in there a child involved or a senior citizen or someone who is unable to protect themselves, that ups the ante a little bit," said Summit County Sheriff's Office Inspector Bill Holland when asked about his reaction to a crime like this against an elderly person. "We take every rape allegation very seriously, no matter what the age, but in this one, this does cause some response from citizens that may hear of it.
Pat Divoky, director of Summit County Job and Family Services, said she would not comment on the case as it is confidential.
According to court records, Clark has a prior record and was convicted of gross sexual imposition in 1988.
