MACEDONIA, Ohio — A Cuyahoga Falls man who rear-ended a Macedonia police car on Christmas Eve while allegedly drinking and driving pleaded not guilty to several charges at his arraignment on Friday.

The driver pleaded not guilty to one count of open container, two counts of OVI, one count of approach to a safety vehicle and one count of speeding. The man was ordered to wear an ankle bracelet that checks for the presence of alcohol as part of his bond agreement, according to court records.

The crash happened on I-271 just north of Ledge Road Bridge. A Macedonia police officer was investigating a crash when his cruiser was hit from behind by another driver, authorities said.

The officer was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The alleged drunk driver was arrested by deputies from the Summit County Sheriff's Office, authorities said.

The driver is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 4, according to court records.
