SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — A Summit County deputy is recovering after getting hit by a suspected drunk driver.

The accident happened during a traffic stop on Olde 8 Road in Northfield Township around 3:30 a.m.

A 2016 Dodge Ram rear-ended the Summit County Deputy patrol car. The patrol car was pushed into a passenger car.

Authorities said the deputy was able to apprehend Michael Spychola Jr., 40, a few houses down.

Spychola was not wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries.

The deputy was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Spychola was arrested for Opertating a Vehicle while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, rear-ending the patrol car and hit-and-run.
