Three women were transported to a nearby hospital earlier this morning when a 40-year-old Bellevue Avenue resident heading northbound on Cuyahoga Street lost control of a 2005 Chevrolet Impala, according to Akron police detectives.
The car struck a telephone pole and street sign near 585 Cuyahoga Street around 11:29 a.m., police said.
Authorities said the driver and the 38-year-old passenger from Carpenter Street were both ejected from the car during the crash. Both were taken to Akron General Hospital. The third passenger, a 37-year-old female who resides on East Crosier Street was transported to Akron City Hospital.
The condition of the victims is unknown at this time.
A dog was reportedly in the car at the time of the crash but police were unable to confirm if the animal was injured.
The car came to rest outside the home of 74-year-old Ronald Berry, who heard the crash.
Berry said he was watching television and heard a loud boom and saw the vehicle nearby. He also discovered a street sign that pierced the side of his home and entered into his bathroom wall. Hours after the crash the sign is still there.
Authorities said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
