Shooting victim dies after crashing car on Cleveland's East Side

CLEVELAND — A 44-year-old man who had been shot died early Thursday morning after crashing a vehicle while exiting the freeway.

At around 12:20 a.m., officers responded to the area of Lee and McCracken roads for a person shot, police said.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim inside a vehicle at the scene of a crash. The man had been shot multiple times. Cleveland EMS pronounced him dead at the scene, authorities said.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the man crashed after he exited Interstate 480 at Lee Road at a high rate of speed, struck another vehicle and then a pole, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle wasn't injured.

It's unclear where the shooting happened.
