MENTOR, Ohio — Mentor residents could see a brand new retail and shopping district in the next two years as part of Uptown Mentor at 8677 Mentor Avenue.

The project would bring 11,300 square feet of retail on the ground level below two floors of office space. The four-story structure would be topped off with a spot for a restaurant or more office space on the top floor with a 8,000 square foot patio, according to CBRE’s Kevin Moss and Joseph Khouri.

“There’s a strong local restaurant community and this offering will allow new context with a brand new location in a market where folks take pride in their city and they want to spend time in their city,” said Khouri.

The project is planned for what is today an empty set of single-story storefronts a few minutes away from a Heinen’s Grocery store and Mentor Commons Shopping Center. The hope is that the 37,000 square foot Uptown Mentor could create a local entertainment district for people on the east side. The existing buildings would be demolished.

Uptown Mentor is supposed to bring the potential for new restaurant space 20-30 minutes east of downtown Cleveland.

“You can come home from work and head over to Uptown Mentor and have a great evening without having to travel downtown,” said Khouri.

The developer is still in the process of acquiring all the land needed for the project but Moss and Khouri say the plan is to start construction this year with an estimated finish in 2022.
