HAMILTON, Ohio — A 3-month-old puppy who lost his back legs and tail after being hit by a train in Southern Ohio is recovering after surgery at an emergency medical clinic in Butler County.

The dog, who has been aptly named “Trooper” was brought to the animal clinic after he was struck by a train in Hamilton, according to a Facebook post by the Animal Friends Humane Society. The pup is also being treated for a ruptured eyeball.

"We don’t know how long Trooper laid by the tracks after he had been struck, but we know that he was alone and fighting for his life for a good amount of time before he was discovered by people walking through the area," Animal Friends Humane Society stated on Facebook.

Trooper's pain is being managed and he is conscious and alert, according to AFHS.

Officials are looking for the puppy's owner. Anyone with information can call (513) 867-5727.
