Officials said the trooper was parked in the right lane of I-70 with flares set up to help a disabled motorist when a commercial truck drove through the flares and smashed into the patrol car.
The trooper and the driver of the disabled car were both in the cruiser when it was struck.
The trooper suffered non life-threatening injuries from the crash. The other motorist was taken to a local hospital by medical helicopter.
"Note that this occurred on a bright, sunny day with clear visibility," the post on OSHP's Facebook page reads. "This location of IR-70 has three open lanes going in each direction. Please, if you see an emergency vehicle parked on the side of a roadway, move over a lane or slow down. There’s a reason for the move over law, and these pictures show it."
