WEST LAYFAYETTE, Ohio — A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured in a go-kart cart crash in Coshocton County Saturday evening.

The Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office that a go-kart had crashed in the 58000 block of County Road 9 in West Lafayette around 6:47 p.m. Tuscarawas County deputies said they were actively performing CPR on the girl.

EMS arrived on scene, found the girl had a pulse and requested a helicopter for her transport, deputies said.

The girl was flown by Cleveland Metro Medflight to Akron Children’s Hospital. Her current condition is unknown at this time.

Deputies learned on scene that a 38-year-old man from Newcomerstown was driving the go-kart with the 14-year-old girl in the passenger seat. When the man attempted to turn, the brakes did not work and the go-kart slid around a curve, caught a rut and rolled onto its side, ejecting the girl.

Neither individual was wearing a seat belt or helmet at the time of the crash, according to deputies.

The crash remains under investigation.
