New restaurant opens during pandemic

CLEVELAND — Starting a business under a normal business environment can be hard enough.

Nearly 50% don’t make it a year and 95% fail within five years.

Add the coronavirus pandemic and you have a perfect recipe for failure.

But that’s not stopping one man from cooking up Cleveland’s only 24/7 brunch spot in Shaker Square.

“The only thing that was missing in Cleveland was a place that serves a brunch style menu all day, every day," Akin Affrica, owner of the Cleveland Breakfast Club and Cleveland Vegan said.

So with that in mind in a little over a month. Akin’s duel restaurant concept will open in Shaker Square in the space formerly occupied by Yours Truly.

“I believe in the future, I’m a risk-taker. I feel like this is the time. I mean, anything can be done at any given time. I just think you need to make adjustments.” Affrica said.” We’ll come in focusing more on the carryout and delivery services. And hopefully, when they allow us to open the dining room full speed ahead we’ll do that.

The business will be two restaurants in one. The Cleveland Breakfast Club open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily and then switching to the Cleveland Vegan Club from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The new concept will be the latest addition to area restaurants Affrica has operated over the years.

“We think we have something that we’re doing right. Come out and give us a try.” Affrica said.
