Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James was honored Monday night, along with two other icons during a Sports Illustrated event at the Barclays Center in New York.
James, 31, was honored as Sports Illustrated's Sportsperson of the Year for winning the first championship for the city of Cleveland in 52 years and his efforts to give back to children in his community.
He is the only two-time winner. James also won the award in 2012. Tiger Woods was selected in 1996 and 2000.
Cleveland Browns great and activist Jim Brown received the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award. Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor took home the Rising Star Award.
During his six-minute speech, James honored his award to his relatives and acknowledged the successful and sometimes tumultuous time the year has been for sports and the United States.
"This isn't about me," James said. "This is much bigger than me."
