WAYNE COUNTY, Ohio — Wayne County is getting ready to roll out a pilot program using grant money from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The idea is simple: extend ride-sharing and other transit services for people living outside the City of Wooster.

The new services are expected to start early next year.

The transit agency, SARTA, is working with the county to create proposals on how the money would be spent.

ODOT will provide nearly $1.5 million for approved changes.

The CEO of SARTA said it wants to serve people in rural areas and will work to coordinate schedules and routes.

The agency said everyone should have their ride options for work, medical appointments, or the court system.

It’s unclear at this point how much the rides will cost, but the pilot program is using input from resident surveys taken earlier this year.
