CLEVELAND —
Clouds, jackets and a chilly rain: November settling in
We get a little break from the rain today, but don’t mistake that for a nice, sunny fall day.
Most of today stays cloudy and cool with temps only making it to around 60°. Grab the jacket on your way out the door. You may not need it every minute this afternoon, but you’ll definitely be glad you have it once the sun goes down.
The good news? Most of the daytime hours are dry. If you’ve been staring at a yard full of leaves, today is probably the better raking day compared to Friday or Saturday. Just know the ground may still be a little damp after Wednesday’s rain.
And maybe don’t spend six hours making the perfect leaf pile. More rain is coming.
Keep the umbrella close tonight
A few light, isolated showers sneak back in this evening. This isn’t an all-night soaking, but it’s enough that you may want the umbrella nearby if you have dinner plans, practice or anything else outside.
It also gets noticeably colder overnight.
Temps fall through the 50s and eventually into the 40s by early Friday morning. This is where the sweatshirt probably turns into a jacket.
If the kids insist they “don’t need one,” they do.
Friday has that raw November feel
Friday is a different story.
Highs struggle to reach 50° with plenty of clouds and a few light rain showers around. It won’t necessarily rain every minute, but the combination of 50°, clouds and chilly rain is enough to make it feel pretty miserable at times.
This is a jacket-and-umbrella day. Probably not the afternoon to tackle a huge pile of leaves, wash the car or plan a long walk unless you’re okay getting a little damp.
For the kids heading to the bus stop Friday morning, I’d go beyond the hoodie. Grab the actual jacket.
Saturday: Not everyone gets the same weather
Saturday is a little tricky.
Areas west and south should start drying out, so you may be able to sneak in some yard work or outdoor plans there.
Closer to Lake Erie and especially downwind of the lake, lake effect rain showers will hang around longer. That means another cool, damp day for some communities.
So before you commit to spending Saturday afternoon raking leaves, check the radar first. Some of us will have a decent window. Others may spend more time hauling the rake in and out of the garage.
Either way, keep the sweater or jacket handy. It’ll stay cool.
Sunday is your better bet
If you have flexibility with outdoor plans, Sunday looks like the better day of the weekend.
We finally dry things out and get temps back into the middle 50s. That’s actually pretty normal for early November.
So Sunday looks much better for the leaf pile, dog walk, afternoon run or whatever else you’ve been putting off.
Just remember: middle 50s is seasonable, not warm.
The jacket stays.
